All legislative powers of the town are vested in the legislative body known as the Burgess and Commissioners. The term in office of the Burgess and five Commissioners shall be four years. The terms shall be staggered. Elections shall be held every even-numbered year. 

The Burgess and Commissioners of Middletown shall have resided in Middletown for at least one year immediately preceding their election, shall be at least twenty-one years of age, and shall be a qualified voter of Middletown.

 

The Burgess and Commissioners of Middletown meet in open meetings on the second Monday and fourth Monday of each month.  A workshop for staff and elected officials is held the first Thursday of the month and is also open to the public.
