Bay Restoration Fund (BRF)
On July 1, 2012, Governor O'Malley doubled the amount needed for the Bay Restoration Fund (BRF). This legislation requires owners of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) to collect a $5.00 monthly fee from their users, effective July 1, 2012. The legislation also requires WWTP owners (that provide drinking water) to collect the BRF fee from users on septic/holding tanks. The purpose of this bill is to create a dedicated fund, financed by wastewater treatment plant users, to upgrade Maryland’s wastewater treatment plants with enhanced nutrient removal.
