John D. Miller, Burgess
Burgess Miller has been a resident of the Middletown Valley since 1962. He grew up in the town of Myersville until 1971 when he and his family moved to Middletown. Mr. Miller is married to Karen, a retired teacher and Principal in Frederick County. They have resided in the Foxfield development since 1991. Karen and John have a daughter, Cari and her husband Dustin Wolf have two daughters and also live in Middletown and a son, Greg and his wife Tia, who reside in Frederick.
Mr. Miller attended Myersville Elementary School and graduated from Middletown High School in 1975. Mr. Miller attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education in 1979. Mr. Miller also holds a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Hood College. He was a teacher for Frederick County Public Schools for thirty-six years and recently retired.
Burgess Miller is a past-President of the Maryland Mayors Association and a past-President and officer of the Frederick County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Municipal League. Mr. Miller is also a Trustee and Vice-Chair for LGIT, the Local Government Insurance Trust. This trust serves the insurance needs of Maryland’s municipalities and several counties in Maryland. Mr. Miller is a member of Holy Family Catholic Community.
Previous to his election as Burgess in 2004, Mr. Miller served for 12 years as a Middletown Commissioner. Mr. Miller is now serving a fourth 4-year term as Burgess (2016-2020).
